Meditation

Meditation has become a cornerstone of the faith of many Unitarian Universalists, whatever their belief or theological orientations. Many find their personal mediation experience enhanced by the presence and support of others in group meditation. Two active groups meet weekly at NSUC: one on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m., the other on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. For the most current meditation schedule, be sure to check our calendar.

Loving Kindness

Usually, on the second and fourth Thursday mornings of each month, meditation involves a 45-minute Loving Kindness practice. This lovely practice is designed to train the mind to overcome negativity. Combining Loving Kindness with Vipassana is very supportive of a meditator’s ongoing practice.

NSUC member Jenna Jordison facilitates the Loving Kindness sessions. Following the session, Jenna often gives a talk on a topic related to the Buddhist teachings and how they are relevant to daily life.

It is possible to attend either the meditation or the talk or both. The meditation starts at 10 am, followed by a five-minute break. The talk starts at 10:50 am, following which there is an opportunity for comments and questions. The sessions end at 11:30 am.

Jenna welcomes newcomers. There is no charge for the talk or the meditation. Donations for the ongoing functioning of the church are welcome.
